3 Northern Luzon areas under Signal No. 3 as Rosita nears

Signal number 3 has been hoisted over 3 areas in Northern Luzon as Typhoon Rosita (Yutu) draws closer to land, the state weather bureau said Monday morning, Oct. 29.

Winds of 121 to 170 kph can be felt in the next 18 hours in Isabela, Quirino, and Northern Aurora, PAGASA said in its advisory published at 11:00 a.m.

Tropical cyclone warning signal 3 can also create moderate to heavy damage, according to the bureau’s scale. It also warned that waves may be higher than 14 meters and that storm surges are possible in coastal areas.

Rosita is expected to make landfall over Southern Isabela-Northern Aurora area by tomorrow morning (30 Oct) and traverse Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet and La Union. (READ: Typhoon Rosita Latest Update, Track, Forecast)

Signal number 2, which can bring winds of 61 to 120 kph, is up in the following areas:

  • Cagayan
  • Abra
  • Kalinga
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Mountain Province
  • Ifugao
  • La Union
  • Benguet
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Pangasinan
  • Tarlac
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Northern Quezon including Polillo Island
  • Southern Aurora

Residents of the following areas which are under signal number 1 can experience winds of 30 to 60 kph in the next 36 hours:

  • Southern Quezon
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Apayao
  • Batanes and Babuyan group of Islands
  • Zambales
  • Rizal
  • Pampanga
  • Bulacan
  • Metro Manila
  • Laguna
  • Batangas
  • Bataan
  • Cavite
  • Camarines Norte

Latest Track of Typhoon Rosita_as of 11AM Oct. 29, 2018

PAGASA said the moderate to heavy rains directly associated with the Typhoon is expected over Northern and Central Luzon starting tonight (29 Oct).

Residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with the local disaster risk reduction and management offices.

Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas with TCWS and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and of Mindanao.

At 10:00 a.m., the eye of Typhoon Rosita was located based on all available data at 410 km East Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora and is moving west southwest at 20 kph. The typhoon was packing aximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center with gusts of up to 185 kph.
