Miss Peru, Laura Spoya, trended on microblogging site Twitter because she isn’t happy with the results of Miss Universe 2015 competition. After host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Ariadna Gutiérrez from Colombia as Miss Universe 2015 on Dec. 20, only to correct himself after the crown had been awarded, Miss Peru expressed her frustrations.
Like Miss Germany has stated earlier, Miss Peru said Miss Colombia ‘deserved the crown’ of this year’s Miss Universe competition.
“For all of us and I think for most people, Miss Colombia is Miss Universe,” the 24-year-old Spoya said in an interview with Colombian news outfit Noticias RCN.
When Harvey returned to the stage to apologize for his “mistake” in reading the results, a shocked Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was then given the crown. After Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was crowned as Miss Universe, several candidates went directly to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach being ignored.
Netizens said Miss Peru was the one who told Pia to step back when she came close to Miss Colombia to claim the crown.
“To all who wonder why Miss Peru is trending, it is because she was the one who told Pia to step back when she came close to Miss Colombia,” @nouirry said.
Earlier reports said Miss Germany blasted Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach and said in an interview that Miss Colombia ‘deserved to win’ Miss Universe 2015.
“I really couldn’t believe it. I was so upset because, for me, she was robbed…I was very happy for Colombia, actually. she really deserved it. But I’m very unhappy with the result and so were the other girls, I’m very sorry to say it.”
