A video of the meeting between DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez in the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda is circulating online and has gone viral.
In the video, which runs for almost 43 minutes, Mar Roxas is caught saying at 6:50 mark “You have to understand you are a Romualdez and the President is an Aquino so we just want to legalize. If not legalized, well okay you are in charged, we can’t help you bahala na kayo sa buhay niyo.”
Mar Roxas during a press conference held on Tuesday countered the viral video, which was originally just 18 seconds, and said that the video was edited and spliced. He was quoted as saying “This spliced video conveniently hides the truth. Let the truth come out. Tigilan na ang panlilinlang.”
He also urged the mayor not to twist the facts in the government’s rescue and relief efforts in Tacloban City and in other parts of Eastern Visayas devastated by Yolanda.
On Monday, December 9, Romualdez appeared at a hearing of a Congressional committee in the Senate on disaster preparedness and response. In the said hearing, Romualdez lamented the slow rescue efforts in Tacloban City which he said could have saved some of the victims.
The viral video was uploaded and described by Cito Beltran as the “video recording of meeting between DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez concerning the need for an ordinance stipulating that the local government is no longer functioning in order for the national government to “officially” assist.”
