Mac Belo hit a three-pointer at the buzzer and the FEU Tamaraws stunned the La Salle Green Archers, 67-64, on Wednesday, October 1 to take their finals series in three games against the National University Bulldogs.
FEU, making its finals appearance since 2011, will be facing National University Bulldogs on Saturday, October 4. NU Bulldogs, on the other hand, have never been in the Finals since 1970.
La Salle finished the third-quarter with 4-point deficit but were able to tie the game at 64 in the last quarter with 24 seconds left. Belo, who made most shots for FEU in the last quarter and scored 12 of FEU’s last 16 points in the game, made a buzzer-beating three-pointer from a Mike Tolomia that settled the final score, 67-64.
Mac Belo finished with a total of 23 points and eight rebounds. Mike Tolomia finished with 14 points and six assists. Roger Pogoy added eight points and 11 boards.
Meanwhile, Jeron Teng led the La Salle Green Archers with 13 points and six assists, while Jason Perkins chipped in a double-double performance with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Big man Arnold Van Opstal added 11 points.
The most anticipated rivalry between DLSU and ADMU in the finals failed to happen as both sides lost their games on Wednesday. The last time when there has been a Finals match without either La Salle or Ateneo was in 1992.
