Despite the lacklustre offense against National University on Sunday 13th, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) have grit their teeth and pulled off a redeeming win as they saw off Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws 69-67.
Kevin Ferrer was the main man, managing to get his name up there with 18 points inclusive of six rebounds alongside Karim Abdul and Kent Lao who combined for 30 points off of 13 from 21. Abdul also got him self 6 rebounds, where as rookie Renzo Subido adding his own 6 points.
The game was slow starting and tightly held, with UST a 12-13 scoreline with FEU in the first quarter. The game starting to pick up in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, reaching 31-26 and then 53-50 with the Growling Tigers sinking their teeth into the match, eager to make up for their disappointing previous week.
It was an enthused Mac Belo and Mike Tolomia who pushed forward for their team, edging up to a 62-59 advantage for FEU, whilst 3 minutes still remained on the clock. What followed was an inspired response from UST’s Karim Abdul and Ferrer who achieved an 8-0 run, composed of back to back 3 pointers from Ferrer to gain a 67-62 lead with less than two minutes to go.
Despite the attempt at recovery from FEU, they were unable to pull off an upset win as Tolomia Chris, Jose Raymar and David Jason all contributed to the woeful misses as the match rolled to a finish against UST.
Mac Belo was the standout for FEU with 19 points and six rebounds, Tolomia with 14 and Russel Escoto sharing eight points and five rebounds with Anthony Hargrove.
