The Game 2 of Ateneo vs NU semifinals fight suffered a brownout that hit the Smart Araneta Coliseum in the late fourth quarter on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball tournament.
The National University Bulldogs were leading, 65-63, when the lights at the venue suddenly went out with less than a minute gone into the final frame.
Play was paused and a 20-minute countdown was initiated before power was restored.
Despite the brownout, the Bulldogs managed to beat the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 65-63, sending them to the finals.
Gelo Alolino clinched the win for National University by hitting two free throws that stretched the Bulldogs’ lead to two in the final 9.3 seconds of the game.
NU’s Alfred Aroga finished the game with 14 points.
“One Clean Fight” became a trending topic on Twitter after the brownout hit the venue.
This was not the first time the ‘One Clean Fight’ chants of the opponents of Blue Eagles hit during the game. The other event was against UE Red Warriors which saw a total of 75 free throw attempts, including 40 from Ateneo and 25 for Blue Eagles star Kiefer Ravena alone.
