Ateneo stuns La Salle, leaves them at 0-2

ADMU knock DLSU down to 0-2.

The DLSU Green Archers weren’t straight shooters in their match against the ADMU Blue Eagles, losing 86-97 in a game that saw four players set new career-highs on the side of Ateneo.

Kiefer Ravena set himself a career-high of 29 points with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. His performance was closely watched by the crowd who chanted “M-V-P” during the final period of the match in front of over 17 thousand fans.

Von Pessumal also managed another career-high 21 points which assisted Ateneo in their abysmal first half. ADMU Rookie Arvin Tolention also managed to make double-points for the first time in his collegiate career with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Alfonso Gotladera was heavily praised for his performance in the game, earning himself 17 points and eight rebounds alongside his composed and maintained presence against the physically dominant La Salle.

The first quarter had DLSU seemingly in control of the match, leading comfortably by 24-17. As the game progressed so did the point spread, favoring ADMU more who pushed the match in their favor 39-37 in the second quarter, 61-59 in the third before finishing off with a disappointing 86-97 loss for DLSU.

DLSU, the defending champions from UAAP season 76 men’s basketball tournament were noticeably shaken by their second defeat of the current season, with Jeron Teng noting that they shouldn’t be discredited just yet.

“We knew naman Ateneo is a contender this year and we knew that they will be strong and ready for us,” said Teng. “Hindi naman panic button, kasi it’s still early and we still have a lot of time to prepare and to adjust whatever we have to adjust as a team.”

DLSU are set to take on National University (NU) on Wednesday 23rd at 4:00PM, whilst ADMU will go up against University of the Philippines (UP) earlier in the afternoon.
