The Philippines’ national men’s basketball team will play their second game in the Asian Qualifiers with a win after beating Japan, 77-71, Friday. Jayson Castro led the Philippines with 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Andray Blatche added 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Matthew Wright chipped in 12 points and three assists for the Philippines.

With players such as Jayson Castro and Andray Blatche taking care of scoring, Gilas Pilipinas has become a heavy favorite heading into their game today.

Philippines is ranked 5th in Asia and 30th in the world while Chinese Taipei is ranked 10th in Asia and 57th in the world.

And while head coach Chot Reyes and his crew are familiar with most of the visiting crew, Gilas is not taking any chances. per

“We know them pretty well,” the veteran tactician told reporters shortly after the national team’s practice on Sunday.

“A lot their players, we’ve (already) played against. We just want to make sure that we take a look at any new stuff they’re running,” Reyes furthered.

The Nationals’ first home match tips off at 7:30 p.m. The next window of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers will be on February next year.
