Facebook user Gabriela Pangilinan Gonzales shared CNN Philippines’ post with the caption:
If you don’t intend to “hurt” someone with your “satire” magazine, then I challenge you to feature in your next issue Sen. Leila de Lima, include the CHR chair, Sen. Trillanes, Matobato, FVR, and ex-president PNoy. Make the issue as offensive as it is like the Mocha tanga issue. Place saba saging on it. I’m sure they won’t be offended coz after all it’s satire, right?
A concerned citizen
This was after Mocha Uson found out that an imitation of her Facebook profile and a collage of President Rodrigo Duterte has been used as cover of a publication passed around the university.
Mocha Uson took the social media in storm when she followed up the issue with a comment saying:
Ito lang akin- AANHIN MO ANG TALINO MO KUNG HINDI KA NAMAN NAKAKATULONG SA BAYAN MO NGUNIT IKAW PA AY NAGIGING DAHILAN NG PAGBAGAL NG ASENSO NITO.
Facebook user Sabby Dee Limcangco also commented in the thread defending Duterte.
Don’t be blinded by your intellectual theories and ideals. And you making a satire against the Duterte admin is actually ruffling a lot of feathers because a majority of the people happen to appreciate the efforts of this government as oppose to the previous admin.
Matanglawin Ateneo explained their take on this issue through this post.
Their publication has previously released a satirical issue about the Aquino administration entitled “Bias ang Arteneo sa mga Akinoknow” (Bias Ang Ateneo sa mga Aquino.)
Rambo Talabong, Matanglawin Editor-in-Chief told CNN Philippines that they did not expect the annual publication to go viral. “Based on the reactions, we feel like the lampoon is a success. Mocha Uson and many of her followers read it at face value… and misread it as a real ‘pamphlet. With our explanation of it as a lampoon, we hope to have sparked a discussion on smarter practices in reading, both in social media and in print,” he said.
A satirical issues such as this one means it’s a “just for fun” issue. Satire demands a different reading from regular news.
Just when Mocha Uson has seemed to have cooled down already on the issue, she has posted 2 public status updates 2 hours as of posting.
#BoycottMATAPOBRE
