“Although we should take seriously any threat to the physical well-being of our brethren, we should not, however, allow any such threats, whether true or not, perceived or imagined, to weaken the strength of our convictions that Brod Jojo Binay is the best hope of our downtrodden countrymen in the years to come,” said Luis Paredes.

Paredes, in his open letter dated August 4, 2015, revealed that there has been text messages circulating that, from an unidentified source, a PHP150 million bounty has been allegedly offered for a “hit order to all members of A.P.O. who are actively participating in the campaign for Vice President Jejomar Binay.”

Luiz did not cite specific evidence of any of these alleged threats. (READ: VIRAL: Open letter to VP Binay goes viral)

Luis Paredes also reminded his brethren not to cower in fear in supporting VP Binay in his quest for the presidential position. He also said he firmly believes that VP Binay exemplified our most cherished ideals and who is primed.

“Let not our zeal be diminished by threats of physical harm nor should we cower in fear in supporting our brother in his quest for the highest political position of the land, a brother who has exemplified our most cherished ideals and who is primed, for the first time in the history of Alpha Phi Omega in the Philippines, to provide the greatest good to the greatest number of our countrymen,” Paredes added. “In the face of peril, let us instead, manifest our fortitude in what we truly believe as we reaffirm our commitment to the principles of LEADERSHIP, FRIENDSHIP and SERVICE.”

He also reminded the person spreading the text messages to appear and work with them in investigating the truthfulness of the warning so that they can take remedial measures.

He said, “To the person spreading the text messages, we ask you, if you are truly an APO, to identify yourself, even if only to our leaders or any brother or sister with whom you have confidence, to work with us in investigating the truthfulness of your warning so that we can take remedial measures to neutralize this intimidation which not only insults the strength of our convictions, but more importantly was clearly intended to demoralize our ranks. If you have truly been steeped in our ideals and principles, do not be the instrument through which you may cast doubt in the hearts of your brothers and sisters. Remember that anonymity is the accomplice of cowardice.”
