A magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck Zamboanga del Norte early Thursday morning and it was strongly felt in several areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake was recorded at 2:21 a.m.
The epicenter of the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, was located at 17 kilometers northwest of Baliguian, Zamboanga Del Norte. It had a depth of 16 kilometers.
Several areas felt the following intensities:
- Intensity V (strong) – Zamboanga City
- Intensity IV (moderately strong) – Baliguian, Gutalac, Ipil, Labason, Siocon, Sibuco, and Titay, Zamboanga Del Norte; Isabela Cioty, Basilan
- Intensity III – Sirawai and Liloy, Zamboanga Del Norte
- Intensity II – Dipolog City; Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental
Phivolcs said aftershocks and damage are expected.
An Interaksyon report said at least three houses were damaged after a magnitude 6 earthquake struck Zamboanga Peninsula early Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
