Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is now on the list of presidential candidates in 2016 National Elections.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc announced on Thursday the acceptance of Duterte’s certificate of candidacy (COC), making his substitution to Martin Diño as PDP-Laban’s bet in the 2016 polls effective.
Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista said at a press conference that the acceptance of Duterte’s COC, through 6-1 vote, is “ministerial” and is from “an administrative point of view.” He insisted that the body does not practice “special treatment for anybody.”
The Commission will still have a hearing on the disqualification case filed by broadcaster Ruben Castor.
In fact, as reported in an article at GMANetwork.com, Comelec First Division Rowena Ganzon accorded that “they have subpoenaed two lawyers who notarized Duterte’s COC for president, as well as his certificate of withdrawal for his COC for reelection in Davao City.”
The said hearing will be held on Friday as the petitioner, Castor, and his counsel did not attend the marking of evidence scheduled last Tuesday.
