MANILA, Philippines – Senator Risa Hontiveros filed a resolution urging the legislative branch to investigate cops on the Sulu ‘misencounter’, Thursday. The said firefight slained four soldiers in duty.
The Hontiveros-filed resolution eyes to regulate the cop force’s use of violence in service. This sprung out after the heinouos killing of state defenders in Sulu.
The Hontiveros explained that she wishes to, “institutionalize measures against the excessive use of force and violence within the police force.”
“The incident in Jolo further feeds the public’s distrust toward the [national police]. Especially since this is not the first time this has happened…our police cannot be trigger-happy,” said the lady solon.
In police reports, cops claimed that the army men tried to escape when the other party tried to question them. However, the military stated that they identified themselves during the said incident.
Philippine Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay accused the police force of whitewash. With that, he demanded a full blown investigation on the said matter.

Spread of distrust among cops- Hontiveros
Senator Hontiveros lashed out at cops for the series of misdoings through the pandemic. She said, “The incident in Jolo further feeds the public’s distrust toward the [national police]. Especially since this is not the first time this has happened…our police cannot be trigger-happy.”
Not too long ago, police misconduct caused the death of former army member Winston Ragos. The said victim was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder among others. He was killed for allegedly bringing out a gun in police encounter.
Hontiveros stressed, “The PNP has a lot to do to live up to its motto to ‘serve and protect.’ Our law enforcers should preserve peace in our communities, not disturb it.”
