A magnitude-5.7 earthquake hit Davao Oriental province early Wednesday, December 4, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said in an update.
Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 7:58 a.m., and traced the epicenter located offshore, 57 kilometers southeast of Mati City.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake was magnitude 5.5.
It said the quake was tectonic in origin.
Intensity V was felt in Mati City, and Davao City.
Intensity IV was felt in Digos City, Don Marcelino & Malita in Davao del Sur, CARAGA, and Davao Oriental.
Intensity III was felt in Tagum City, Panabo City, Compostela Valley, Matan-ao in Davao del Sur, Butuan City, and Kidapawan City.
Intensity II was registered for San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, Cotabato City, Gen. Santos City, Koronadal City, Polomolok in South Cotabato, Alabel in Sarangani, Matalam in North Cotabato.
No damage or aftershocks were expected, it added. However, aftershocks are expected. There is no tsunami alert for the area in relation to the quake.
