MANILA, Philippines – The third tropical cyclone to hit the country (Carina) brought rain throughout Luzon, Monday.
Its strength led the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration to raise Signal No. 1 in the Northern areas.
The areas included are:
- Babuyan Islands
- northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan
- Santa Ana
- Santa Teresita
The said announcement was made 5 pm yesterday.
PAGASA weather official Benison Estareja stated that the following areas should expect heavy rain in the next 24 hours. He added that they would also experience gusts of wind.
Estareja aalso warned residents of the said area. He said that flood-prone areas may also experience flooding due to the rainfall Carina will bring.
Will TD Carina intensify into a Typhoon
PAGASA stated that it is not likely for Carina to intensify into a typhoon. However, they said that a possible landfall in the Northeastern parts of Luzon is still possible.
“The center of the tropical depression was forecast to move northwestward toward the Luzon Strait, passing roughly 100 kilometers off the northeastern tip of Luzon and near Babuyan Islands and Batanes,” it said.
“However, accounting for the forecast track probability cone, a landfall scenario over these areas remains a possibility,” it added.
