President Duterte: True Shepherd in his great apostolic Act

This is an open letter to all Priest, Ministers, and Pastors of all faith entitled President Duterte: True Shepherd in his great apostolic Act!

Priests, ministers, and pastors of all Christian faith have to have an open manifestation of recognition and deep appreciation to the man, though not ordained to behave, to act or to perform a biblical-spiritual function, had in time saved the sheep and even its lukewarm shepherds.

His discernment of a long-established universal movement of treachery and deceit even in its most alluring stage (the Bible said in Matt. 24:24 “if possible even the very elect – Priest, Ministers, Pastor – are deceived”) could not hold him to call it a scam and ordered it closed!

What a brave Shepherd President Duterte has become. The effect of the scams or the Ponzi schemes if not stopped by the President could have long devastating consequences to the flock, for it is no respecter of positions and professions. Like an avalanche of a raging mob, people rush to join the bandwagon without applying the basic principle of DUE DILIGENCE. It was almost unstoppable in spite of massively published warnings by the Securities and Exchange Commission until the president ministered to the remaining unsuspecting prey and rescued the vulnerable gulled participants from reinvesting or re-donating their collected payouts by instructing government agencies to close and run after the schemers.

Pres. Duterte’s act could be one of the few, if not the only in the world, and it is something the rest of the presidents or leaders of the global-world must emulate and follow.

The absence of Pastoral Statements calling sin by its right name or citing these schemes as “scams and fraud” let alone call it PONZI, left the members of the church drinking the wine-the teaching of speculative schemes. Records have shown that some ministers or spiritual leaders were both silent and loud proclaimers and investors themselves. Besides, the enticement is so religious and spell-bounded by seen actions of medical, poverty-alleviating missions.

A 19th century (1923) author wrote in her book Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers p.335,336 “Now in probationary time, we are all on test and trial. Satan is working with his deceiving enchantments and bribes and some will think that by their schemes they have made wonderful speculation. But lo, as they thought they were rising securely and were carrying themselves loftily in selfishness, they learned that God can scatter faster than they can gather.”

The deafening silence of staunch Human Rights advocates in the plight of the scams’ victims moralized the treachery albeit baffled the citizenry! The institutional mantra “The right of every citizen to be rightly informed” is nowhere in their programs and activities. Where are the Rights advocates for the innocent victims who by now some have already committed suicide?

PONZI Schemes had been in this planet earth In Time when the bible calls it the “last days.” In the book 2 Timothy 3:1-5 “This know also, that in the last days’ perilous time shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own self, covetous….”

Does the President know this biblical pronouncement of our time and thus moved in time to protect the nation and its people from selfish covetous pursuits of schemes which at first appear to be good but the end is bitter and disastrous?

    • In the 2009 annual meeting of the Sociologist Association of America held in New York, they republished their 1983 findings which says that, “One of the most popular explanations of contemporary financial crisis with its disastrous social and economic consequences is personal greed a “selfish” pursuit of “self-interest” that has no recognition of others…,”
    • In 2015, the Institute of Economic Affairs of Great Britain published a book written by Christopher Snowdon entitled “Selfishness, Greed, and Capitalism.”
    • Seven years ago, the Philippine Daily Inquirer published an article written by Prof. Randy David, A Sociology of Scams where it says, “Scams tell us a lot about the nature of our society—more than about gullibility, greed, or ignorance of our people”.

Though Ponzi Schemes was popularized by Charles Ponzi in 1929, its operations had started way back in 1830. Wikipedia, in its website, globally recorded the movement of this Speculative Scheme year after year. Google dictionary defines Ponzi scheme as a “form of fraud in which belief in the success of a nonexistent enterprise is fostered by the payment of quick returns to the first investors from money invested by later investors.” “A classic Ponzi scheme built on treachery and lies.” “You rob Peter to pay John” is an outright violation of the Ten Commandments!

    Pres. Duterte is biblically relevant!

He took the “last days” or the apocalyptic prescription of Christ given to the prophet Daniel for our generation that says “by prosperity shall destroy many.” Dan 8:25 Since 1830, the movement of prosperity in the concept of a Ponzi Scheme has thrived on many names. The Securities and Exchange Commission has identified and published at least 24 entities operating in the country. Most prominent because of its religious connotation is the KAPA Ministries International. Kabus Padatoon in Ponzi scheme is a surety of destruction. To quote the President, “when something is too good to be true, it’s a fraud.”

No amount of religious packaging can justify a Ponzi scheme. No rhetoric of arguments can contend that KAPA scheme is not a Ponzi scheme. As a matter of fact, the language of such “donations, blessings and gifts” cannot change the mode, the approach, the format of activities or simply the scheme of “get rich quick” which is exactly the mother-model of post-modern scams!

Truly the Bible is a Word of guidance and protection. We only need to remind the ministers, pastors, and priests that our church is called Laodicea, which means that both leaders and members were described by Jesus Christ as BLIND and NAKED (Rev.3:17).  We see the scheme but we cannot see the scam. We are naked because there is no wearing (clothes) reasons to justify it as moral and biblical.

The catchphrase, the buzzword or the tagline “it’s a blessing,” “it’s a gift” “not investments, not interests” and the vindication/excuse that it’s just religious activities, a church movement upon which the government cannot interfere, is exactly what the bible or the Word of God condemns! Psalms 10:2-3 says, “In his arrogance, the wicked man hunts down the weak who are caught in the schemes he devises. For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous whom the Lord abhoreth”. The bible clearly defined the word “blesseth” as also used attributing to an act of the wicked.

How about gifts? In Proverbs 15:27 is written, “He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.” As Christian, we must hate gifts and bribes.

Who’s in God’s side? Who’s guarding the sheep? Who’s doing the work of Christ’s mission?

On this line, its President Rody Roa Duterte!

Does the President have the biblical mandate to stop and punish the scammers?

2Peter 2:13-16 “Be willing to serve the people who have authority in this world. Do this for the Lord. Obey the King, the highest authority. And obey the leaders who are sent by the king. They are sent to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do good. 16. Live like free people, but don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil”.

If there is one biblical injunction and patriotic as such for ministers, pastors, priests and leaders in all faith, we may join our hands in giving the President thanksgiving prayer for saving the poor and reminding the rich that schemes are as vicious self-destructive activities to families, communities and to the nations!
