December 20, 2015 (Dec. 21 in Manila) marks the day when the new Miss Universe was crowned in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, which was held in The AXIS. Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was crowned as the 64th Miss Universe after Paulina Vega of Colombia won her title in January 2015 in Florida, USA.

Pia bested 79 other contestants from across the world including top favorites Miss USA Olivia Jordan, and Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez. The Filipina beauty is the third winner from Philippines after Margarita Moran won the contest in 1973.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach (Philippines)

Question: Do you think the US should have a military base in your country?

Answer: I think that the US and the Philippines have a good relationship with each other. We’ve been colonized by the Americans and we have their culture. Philippines is very welcoming with the Americans and I don’t see any problem with that at all.

Question: Having experience terrorism, what is the best way to combat this threat.

Answer: We have to know where the problems are coming from and listen to the people committing these attacks.

Question: Australia is taking first step legalizing marijuana. Do you think that’s OK?

Answer: In certain circumstance, marijuana is beneficial like treating cancer. In that circumstance, yes we should. But the gov’t should weigh first option.

Question: Drug abuse continues to be one of the world’s biggest problems. What is the best way to handle this issue?

Answer: Our homes need to incentives education for these problems because they continue to be large problem for the world.

USA: What’s your position on gun control?

Answer: Incredibly difficult issue. It’s important that all individuals have the right to protect themselves and feel safe. Sometimes, we need to look at the safety of the whole rather than personal safety. We need better regulations so we need to pay attention.

Q&A Portion Final 3: Why you should be the next Miss Universe?

USA: I should be the next universe because I’m so driven. I want to work to bring equality towards men and women.

Colombia: I’m positive that I should be the 3rd Miss Universe from my country because I have attributes of a Latin woman, a woman from Colombia should have, and a Miss Universe.

Philippines: I will use my voice to raise awareness and shed light in causes like HIV. Show the world that I am confidently beautiful with a heart.
