Minglanilla, Cebu Official Local Candidates 2019 Midterm Elections

Two people are running for mayor of Minglanilla, Cebu in the coming 2019 local elections.

Registered voters will elect for the elective local posts in Minglanilla, Cebu: the mayor, vice mayor, the Congressman, and the councilors, six in each of the city’s two legislative districts, on May 13, 2019.

Minglanilla, officially the Municipality of Minglanilla, (Cebuano: Lungsod sa Minglanilla; Tagalog: Bayan ng Minglanilla), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 132,135 people.

Minglanilla is bordered to the north by the City of Talisay, to the west is the city of Toledo, to the east is the Cebu Strait, and to the south is the city of Naga.

Minglanilla lies within Metro Cebu. It is known as the “Sugat Capital of the South”. (Sugat in Cebuano means meeting.) The Kabanhawan (Cebuano for “Resurrection”) festival is held annually on Easter Sunday.

A big socio-religious event in Minglanilla is the Sugat, which attracts not only people from adjacent towns but also from Cebu city and further. On Black Saturday night, a public dance is held at the church plaza to witness the re‑enactment of the “meeting” of the risen Christ and his mother. Their images, borne on richly decorated carrozas, meet amidst joyous songs and the presence of child angels suspended by wires.

Guidelines for Verification

  1. The Certified List of Candidates (List), as posted, is merely an initial List and subject to editing.
  2. All candidates are enjoined to check their names, specifically their Names to Appear on the Official Ballot, in the List.
  3. Any request for correction, if allowed, shall be communicated to the Regional Election Director, Provincial Election Supervisor, or Election Officer concerned in writing until 9 November 2018. The Election Officer shall in turn, submit a memorandum to the Law Department, by the fastest means of communication with regard to the request for correction.
  4. The Law Department shall determine whether or not the request for correction is allowed.
  5. The List is subject to the outcome of the various cases/issues pending before the Commission.
