Several areas and schools have declared class suspensions on September 30, 2019, Monday, due to a scheduled nationwide transport strike. (READ: List of private school class suspensions for September 30, 2019)

Three transport groups, Alyansa Kontra PUV Phaseout, Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO), and Stop and Go Coalition, are set to stage a nationwide transport strike on Monday.

Dindo Rosales of Alyansa Kontra PUB Phaseout said in a press conference at the House of the Representatives that they will push through with their transport strike, even a typhoon or earthquake can’t stop them.

“The nationwide transport strike on Monday is all set, even in provinces,” he added.

Per Inquirer.net’s article, Efren De Luna, national president of the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO), clarified that they are not against modernizing but the immediate phaseout of jeepneys and UV express cars by July 2020. Jun Magno from Stop and Go Coalition called on President Rodrigo Duterte to hear their demands and scrap the planned phaseout of old PUVs under the Department of Transportation’s modernization program.
