Malacañang has declared June 24, 2019 as special non-working day in the city of Manila as it celebrates its 448th Foundation Day.
Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, on behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte, signed Proclamation No. 731 on June 4 formalizing the directive covering the entire city of Manila to pave the way for the founding anniversary celebration.
Spanish navigator Miguel Lopez de Legazpi declared Manila the first municipal government in the country on June 24, 1571.
The city became the Philippine capital in 1976.
